She walked over to the window and looked, and there before her was a raven. She had seen one before, but never up close except for that odd mishap earlier on in the village before she'd gotten to the tavern. The raven flew in the window and landed on her arm, looking up at her.
âHello. I am a messenger from another land. I hear of your power and wish to assist you in any way possible. My name is Astrid, and I am at your service.â
âThank you but wait didn't I meet you earlier?â Isra inquired as she was sure that Astrid was the very same one that she'd noticed landing haphazardly in the bushes earlier on today.
âAha, no sorry. There are a few of us around though!â Astrid dismissed her idea very swiftly. He didn't want to leave anything to chance. As far as Astrid was concerned he was making his grand entrance now. Because now more than ever presented the opportunity for him to come back. Why? He'd waited enough bleeding years had he not? Twelve years Astrid had waited for Lady Isra of the Dark. Everything on the light-bringer front had gone deathly quiet. And so he had deemed it was time to stop messing around and finally allow himself back into her life again. What was the worst that could happen? Isra saying no? Telling him to buzz off. Please like she was going to do that! I've risked heaven and earth, well everything for Isra. Sure, she may not trust me but that's okay because I can gain that in time. I've waited bloody forever and a day for this. I can't bring myself to do it any longer. Staying away from her. It's killing me. Astrid went over this over and over inside his head. He'd wasted enough time. And let's face it, the light was hardly interested in Isra anymore but they might be if they knew what she was up to with this slave boy.
Isra looked over at Astrid with deep interest before she motioned, âOh my apologies I was sure a raven identical to you approached me earlier but no matter.â And she simply shrugged it off before pausing. He was quite the majestic character. Those deep beady eyes with the golden yellow sheen she was sure she'd seen it somewhere before. I must be going mad. Isra chorused in her thoughts as she left the thought drift away from her.
Lady Isra peered into Astridâs eyes inquisitively as she commented to him, âWhy, you are a pretty thing! I am honored to have a friend such as you. Tell me, do you wish to share my power because some are afraid of me and what I do?â
Astrid squawked, then replied, âI am not afraid of you. I know you do dark things, but it is in your nature to be dark. This is truly what you are, and if others do not accept it, it is their problem, not yours. I am merely here to assist and guide you as you grow stronger.
